Elliana Solutions (ES) seeks a comprehensive solution for their entire information technology infrastructure, which is to be carried out using a standard approach deployment of the Windows Server 2016. The solution provided is supposed to guarantee services to 110 employees that the company currently has, of which nine are top executives all organized into various departments. The organization has three offices in cities such as Washington D.C., Atlanta in Georgia, and New York City in New York State. New Features of Windows Server 2016

The Windows Server 2016 has numerous new features that the ES intends to fully maximize the use for purposes of optimal gain. The organization’s newly acquired physical machines are expected to greatly benefit from the improved accuracy of time as a result of the advancements in synchronization services of the Win32. The initial features of the previous platform, like the integration services driven by the Hyper-V virtualization, have been significantly improved. Some of the noticeable new features coming with the new platform are focusing on areas that are important to the ES information technology infrastructure. These areas include security, migration of services to the cloud, and enhanced storage capacity. Some of the new features include the Docker integration and Windows Server Containers as well as significant improvements on the features that were previously introduced in the past previews like the Shielded VM, which have instrumental in protecting the contents of the virtual machine in multitenant environments. Also, the new platform offers TP2 release commonly referred to as Nano Server as well as other a significant number of the Hyper-V and a couple of storage and networking features.

The roles of each server, such as the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and the Domain Name System (DNS) will remain uncombined due to the need of eliminating traffic issues that often arise in occurrences involving a larger number of system users sharing common resources concurrently (Modi, 2017). This also includes print and file sharing server roles.

Every single server making part of the system will operate the Windows Server 2016 standard edition. The installation will take place in each location. The plan is to distribute the servers according to the volume or size of activities in each location. The head office in Washington D.C. is expected to have the highest number of servers at five followed by Atlanta’s office, which will have 3 and finally the newly opened office in New York City, which for now will have 2 servers at its disposal. The Active Directory (AD) is an extremely significant service as far as an organization’s information infrastructure is concerned. Elliana Solutions will as well require one forest containing three domains where one will be for Washington D.C location, another for Atlanta, and finally, the last one for New York. This will be accompanied by four-fault tolerance domain controllers distributed as follows: D.C two Domain Controllers, then the rest of the two locations sharing one each with New York taking the Read-Only Domain Controller (RODC). In the event that the two main DCs in Washington plus the other one in Atlanta fail concurrently, the RODC in New York will take up their roles hence the replication that is shown in the above diagram as taking place between the locations (Microsoft, 2017).  Every AD in the system will have a server committed to it. This is to ensure better performance. The deployment process will involve site creation for the AD DCs in all the three locations to enhance replication between them. The two main DCs in the Washington D.C office will serve as the company’s global catalog servers.  The organizational AD units will then be prepared as per location and organizational departments, which include the Executive, Human Resources, Finance, System Client Administration, Accounting, amongst others.

 

DNS and DHCP

 

DHCP in this arrangement will be functioning to simplify administration since allocating the network parameters for every department device will be unnecessary. Due to its dynamic nature, the client systems will be the ones utilizing the DHCP while other organization-based systems such as files and printers will be using the static IP addresses. The DHCP will also be configured to handle functions such as load balancing and fault tolerance for the servers located in Washington D.C, Atlanta, and New York, all of which will have failover load balancing mode configuration performed upon them. Also of importance and that which must be included in the development of three scopes of DHCP in all three locations. Washington, D.C will be assigned 156.90.55.0-156.90.55.150, thereby leaving substantial room for future expansion. The company’s design for DNS namespace will adopt ellianasolutions.com utilizing the internal private domain. Each location will have one DNS server unless there is a need to increase the number. Each of the three locations will adopt the following: wdc.ellianasolutions.com, at. ellianasolutions.com and ny. ellianasolutions.com.

Application Services

           

Group policy will apply while deploying all the applications in the company. Tools such as the AD administration will be of important use, especially when formulating group policies for the applications then proceeding to include the formulated group policies on each and every computer in all the domains in the organization’s three locations.  We will use a department-based approach to assign the applications. It is the applications that users will mostly be interacting with. For the productivity of the organization to be at where is expected, the applications must be at their optimal state every time. Some of the basic applications that we can recommend include Adobe Acrobat Pro, Microsoft Office Professional, and Mozilla Firefox. Others include Kaspersky for security, Adobe Flash Player, and Java, amongst others. Other non-basic applications that the departments will need may be installed later.

File and Printer Sharing

Enabling of print and file sharing will take place in all the three sites. The file and print servers available in the organization will be shared among the three locations with Washington D.C location taking a slightly higher number than the other two locations. In total, there will be a creation of six shares. Every department in the company is expected to own a share. Consequently, every share will be using NTFS permission, which will be used in restricting other departments from accessing files that specifically belong to a given department. Distributed file system domains will be utilized in sharing resources across the three locations. Management of printers will involve the use of a console. Elliana Printer has a total of 10 printers where each printer is located in every location. The printer drivers will be shared through servers so that the staff may not have to perform the installation by themselves.  Again the group policy will be applied as per the location.  An employee in any of the three locations will have to seek permission to access any of the ten printers in the company.

Windows Server 2016 has come with a variety of numerous new features that will make the work of the organization’s employees not only appealing but also easy.

The AD acts as the nerve center of the network, while the DHCP and DNS are the key drivers of the organization’s productivity. Applications also take part in productivity but are mainly important when it comes to running the organization. File and print sharing is vital, particularly on the front that it enables the sharing of updates and other information between three locations.
