The environmental factors are inclusive of the negative perception and treatment of LGBT people in most communities they live in, which makes them hide their identities and not disclose and access the right health care services when they acquire certain conditions. Failure of society to fully accept LGBT individuals is a significant socio-cultural factor as the fear of the stigma from both their communities and the health care providers creates fear of using public health facilities.

There are several population health nursing interventions that might help in promoting the effective use of health services by LGBT. The protections in section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act that provide for non-discrimination based on sex, including the LGBT, may help in promoting their use of health services effectively if adhered to (Baker, 2016). The intervention by Cigna insurance group where they have provided training that is specific on issues of health that get faced by the LGBT individuals to most of their clinicians, educating their employees on the disparities of health that the LGBT individuals face and participating in events and organizations that support LGBT health like the Philadelphia Transgender Health Conference and Gay and Lesbian Medical Association.
