I agree with the author that technology erodes the quality of human communication in the sense that as much as people are often together in social gatherings, they often stick to their phones, where they put their maximum concentration (Turkle, 2013). The author is right when she says that people do not concentrate in corporate board meetings, they are always on their phones in classes, and parents also use their phones when they are at the dinner tables, thus denting their children to connect with them (Turkle, 2013). This habit is everywhere, and technology has taken over the lives of people in unexpected ways.

I have always been guilty of the same because I always tend to focus more on my phone when I am in front of people. I am one person who likes social media sites, and I would never go a day without using them. These sites are addictive as people often want to find out what their friends post, and comment on them (Turkle, 2013). Besides, there are many groups on WhatsApp, particularly the ones that concern class discussions, where we often have to participate in the assignments given (Turkle, 2013). Thus, there is no way I could stay away from my phone. This habit is problematic because there is a loss of the actual social interaction like it used to be before.

The only solution to this problem is that people should always be cautious when they are in social places. It is ideal that people have self-discipline and refrain from using their phones when they are with other people.
